Helping you to be a better team player

How to make a good referral

A referral is an opportunity to present your business to someone who is in the market to buy your product or service, where that presentation will be looked forward to with anticipation. It's not a guaranteed sale, but an open door to discuss your business. We specialise in referrals, not leads. Leads are simply useful information.

Six points in giving a good referral

1 Listen for a need from someone you've met. A good networker has two ears and one mouth and uses them both proportionally.
2 Tell the individual that you know someone who can provide that service.
3 If you've done business with the member you are referring, tell them about your experience.
4 Give the individual the business card of the person you are referring and ask for that person's card for the member's reference.
5 Ask if it is Okay to have the member call regarding the need.
6 If he answer is yes, fill out a referral slip and give it to the chapter member at the next meeting.

Six tips for successful networking

1 Spend time outside the weekly meetings getting to know your fellow members - over lunch or an early evening drink.
2 Choose to sit next to a different member at each breakfast meeting.
3 Use the 45 minutes open networking to introduce yourself to the visitors. See if you can do business with them - that is why they are there. Aim to be at our meeting by 6.30 a.m.
4 Make a point of shaking hands with as many members as possible every week.
5 Carry the business card holder with you everywhere you go.
6 Attend as many training opportunities as you can.

What makes a team leader?

"How we do our work becomes a mirror of how we are inside. In the process, the work you do becomes you. And you become the force that breathes life into the idea behind the work. You become the creator of the work you do."
